UROLOGY GOLD MEDAL
   
  Awarded to the President of USI at the time of inauguration of the USI annual meeting by the Chief guest of occasion.
 
  Presentation: Certificate
  Medal (Cost not to exceed Rs.1000/-)
PRESIDENT'S GOLD MEDAL
   
 
  1. The medal is to be awarded to a member of the USI residing in India who has made an outstanding contribution to the progress of urology in India. The contribution could be academic or organizational.
  2. The nominee for the award will be recommended to the Council of USI by a committee appointed specifically for that purpose. The committee will consist of three members nominated by the council of USI. The tenure of the committee is eligible for the award while he is a member of the committee.
  3. The recommendation of the Committee should reach the office of the Secretary of USI at least one month before the annual meeting of the USI. The correspondence should remain strictly confidential.
  4. The decision of the committee`s recommendation will be placed before the council at its annual meeting during the annual conference of the USI. The decision of the council will be final.
  5. The name of the recipient will be announced at the general body meeting.
  6. Though the award is to be made annually, it may be cancelled if no suitable candidate is found.
  7. No member shall be given this award more than once.

DR. G.M.PHADKE ORATION
   
 
  1. The oration will be awarded to a person who is neither a full member nor an affiliate member of USI.
  2. The awardee may be urologist or may belong to a para urological speciality. He/She should have a good standing in his/her respective speciality.
  3. The Oration is to delivered for the Urology section during the annual conference of ASI. The duration of the oration will be 45-60 minutes.
  4. Any member of the USI can recommend a nominee for the award. The recommendation should include the following details about the nominee.
    • Brief bio-data (Professional status and particulars)
    • The subject of oration.
    • Member assurance that the nominee, if selected, will travel to deliver the oration.
  5. The recommendation of the member should be forwarded to the secretary of USI one year in advance.
  6. The selection of the orator will be done by the council whose decision will be final.

DR. R. SITHARAMAN MEMORIAL ESSAY COMPETITION
   
 
  1. This annual essay competition is open to any member of the USI, either full or associate, who is less than 40 years of age.
  2. The topic for the essay will be selected by the council of USI and will be announced at the General body meeting one year in advance.
  3. The essay should be written in English and must not exceed three thousand words. In addition, a full bibliography should be given at the end of the essay.
  4. The essay must be written by one author, a written declaration stating that he/she is the original and sole author of the essay must accompany the essay.
  5. Four copies of the essay typed in double space should reach the Office of the Hon. Secretary of USI by the stipulated date.
  6. A brief bio-data of the author should also be sent along with the essay. Along with the bio-data of the author, a copy of the age certificate to be provided.
  7. The winner will be selected by a committee of three members nominated by the council of USI. The tenure of the committee will be for three years.
  8. The decision of the selection committee will be final.
  9. The winner will be announced during the general body meeting and will be expected to receive the award personally during the valedictory function of the conference.

DR. HIMADRI SARKER MEMORIAL ORATION
   
 
  1. The oration will be held every year on the first day of the annual conference of USI. It will be the first Scientific programme of the USI.
  2. It will be delivered by a past president of the USI.
  3. The orator shall be selected by the council or by a committee consisting of "President elect and 2 past Presidents." The decision to be ratified by the council.
  4. The selection of the orator will be done one year before the scheduled oration.
  5. The name of the orator will be announced at the time of general body meeting held during the previous annual conference.
  6. In the event of the selected orator expressing his inability to deliver the oration, a committee comprising of the office bearers of the USI will select the orator for the year.
  7. The oration will not be delivered more than once by any orator.

USI MEMBER TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP
   
 
  1. This annual award is open to any one who has been a full member of USI for a minimum period of three years and is less than 45 years of age.
  2. The fellowship is to enhance the knowledge in the technique of urologic surgery. The awardee will be expected to spend at least two weeks in an institution of his choice for this purpose.
  3. The member may send his application on a plain paper to the Secretary of USI before the stipulated time by the secretary. The application must be accompained by-
    • A brief bio-data.
    • The name of the institution where the applicant proposes to spend the two weeks and the subject of his training.
    • A certificate from the head of the department or an equivalent authority stating their willingness to relieve the applicant for two weeks training period.
    • USI membership No. to be provided. A valid ceritificate stating the date of birth to be furnished.
  4. The winner will be selected by a committee consisting of the President elect and two immediate past presidents. The decision of the committee will be ratified by the council of USI.
  5. The name of the winner will be announced at the general body meeting of the USI.
  6. The cash award will be made only after completion of the training.

USI TEACHER TRAVEL FELLOWSHIP AWARD
 
 
  1. This cash award of Rs.6000/- (Six thousand only) will be paid to Department of Urology of an Institution for sponsoring to it the visit of a teacher in urology for the purpose of teaching the post-graduate students in urology at the institution.
  2. The invited teacher should be
    • A recognised teacher in urology for at least five years and that he should be a member of the USI.
    • Should hold a senior rank such as Associate Professor or Professor of Urology.
    • Should be more than 45 years in age.
    • Must be willing to spend a minimum of a 7 days or a maximum of 14 days at the Institution to teach post graduate students.
  3. The application for the award should be submitted by the Head of the Department of Urology of the host Institution stating the following details.
    • Name and brief bio-data of the teacher it intends to sponsor.
    • Acceptance letter from invited teacher.
    • Brief out line about the urology training programme at the Institution.
    • A valid date of birth certificate and USI membership no. of the teacher to be provided.
  4. The application should reach the office of the Secretary of USI before the stipulated time announced by the secretary.
  5. The selection will be made by the council.
  6. The winner will be announced at the general body meeting of USI.

LATE G.M. PHADKE TRAVELLING FELLOWSHIP
 
 
  1. Two fellowships will be awarded every year.
  2. Senior post graduate students undergoing training for M.Ch.(Urol)or Dip-NB (Urology) are eligible to apply. Applications should be made in a prescribed form which will be available on request from the Hon. Secretary of USI in the month of January every year.
  3. Candidate should be available during the annual conference of USI for a selection which may be in the form of quiz/interview/examination to test the knowledge of the applicant.
  4. The names of the winner will be submitted by the selection committee to the council of USI for ratification.
  5. The names of the recipients of the awards will be announced during the general body meeting.
  6. The winners will be expected to receive certificates of fellowship during the next inaugural function of the USI conference.
  7. During the course of the year, awardees will be expected to visit two urological centers of their choice in India for a minimum period of ten days at each center.
  8. A detailed report of the visit must be submitted to the office of the Secretary of USI within fifteen days after completion of each visit.
  9. Only fifty percent of the fellowship award money will be paid in advance and the remaining fifty percent will be paid only when the visit report is submitted in time.

THE PINNAMANENI VENKATESWARA RAO LECTURE
 
 
  1. This annual award is to be given to any member of the USI, full or associate, who has made a significant contribution in the field of clinical, experimental or basic sciences as applied to urology.
  2. The nominee for the award should be proposed by a full member of the USI before 31st August every year. The proposal should include the following details of the nominee.
    • Brief bio-data (Professional status and particulars of outstanding work)
    • The subject of the lecture.
    • Member's assurance that the nominee, if selected, will be available to deliver the lecture.
  3. The final selection will be done by a committee consisting of the President and two immediate past President of USI. A member of the committee can also nominate a person for the lecture.
  4. The decision of the selection committee will be ratified by the council of USI at its meeting. The council's decision will be final.
  5. The winner of the award will be expected to deliver the lecture at the annual conference of USI that year.
  6. Copy of the lecture should be submitted for publication in the Indian Journal of Urology.
  7. In case the awardee is unable to deliver the lecture in person, the lecture will stand cancelled.
 
 

 

 
 

Presentation of Gold Medal and Certificate

 
PROF. C.K.P. MENON PRIZE FOR THE BEST PAPER OF THE YEAR
 
 
  1. This annual competition is open to any member of the USI, full or associate, who is either in urology residency training or has been in practice for less than five years from the date of completion of his/her urology training.
  2. The paper must be in the field of urology or ancilliary discipline contributing to urology.
  3. The paper must be written by one author and the material presented must be significant work of the author carried out in India . In case the work has been done in collaboration, a certificate from the collaborators stating that the author has done the major part of the work must accompany the paper.
  4. The material being presented in the paper must not have appeared elsewhere in any form viz.: publication, lecture, movie etc.
  5. The full text of the paper must reach the office of the Secretary of USI before the last date specified for submission of paper during each annual conference. The author should inform the Secretary of USI that the paper is for Prof. C.K.P. Menon Prize Competition.
  6. The papers will have to be presented by the author during the annual conference of USI. The time for presentation will be 8(eight) minutes.
  7. The papers will be adjudged independently by three judges appointed by the council of the USI through Secretary. The prize winning paper may be submitted for presentation in the Indian Journal of Urology.
  8. The winner will be announced in the general body meeting and will be expected to receive the award in person during the next inaugural function of the USI conference.

VIJAYAWADA PRIZE FOR THE BEST POSTER
 
 
  1. The council will appoint 3 judges for judging the posters in the USI meeting. The judges should mark their scores independently. The judges should submit the mark sheet to the USI secretary of his nominee at the end of poster discussion each day. The final tabulation is done by the secretary or his nominee and the result announced in the valedictory function. The Best three Posters will receive the Prizes.

BRIJ KISHORE PATNA PRIZE
 
 
  1. This annual competition is open to any member of the Urological Society of India, full or associate, who is a practising urologist in a non teaching/teaching institution or in private practice.
  2. The paper must be written by one author and should be the work done in India .
  3. The material being presented in the paper must not have appeared elsewhere in any form viz: publication, lecture or video etc.
  4. The paper should be sent on the prescribed proforma by the Urological Society of India and should be marked for the prize.
  5. The paper should be received by the Honorary Secretary's Office by the time prescribed by the Urological Society of India.
  6. The paper will have to be presented by the author during the annual conference of USI.
  7. The papers will be adjudged independently by two or more judges appointed by the council of USI. The judges will submit their assessment independently to the council of the USI through Secretary. The prize winning paper may be submitted for presentation in the Indian Journal of Urology.
  8. The winner will be announced in the general body meeting and will be expected to receive the award in person during the next inaugural function of the USI conference.
  9. If the quality of the paper is not to the standard or if no papers are submitted, the prize will not be granted and the prize money will be added to the corpus fund.
  10. The winner will have to go for a refresher course for 10(ten) days to any recognised training centre in Urology of his choice, after confirming the acceptance by the centre chosen.

CHANDIGARH BEST-VIDEO AWARDS
 
 
  1. The Organising Committee of the 31st Annual Conference of the Urological Society of India at Chandigarh , has approached the Executive Council of our Society with the request to institute 2 prizes for the best 2 videos selected at the Annual conferences.
  2. The Organisers shall be donating Rs. 50,000 as the corpus amount and the interest earned there upon, shall be used as the prize money of Rs.3000 & Rs.2000 respectively. However, this year, the organisers shall be donating additional Rs. 5000 for the best 2 videos selected during USICON-99 at Bhubaneswar .

REGIONAL/LOCAL/CUES
 
 

The Council grants Rs.5000/- for the regional CUEs conducted for 2 days and Rs.3000/- for a one day CUE. Any member who organises such a local/state level meeting is also eligible to receive the grants.
Application for the grant should be submitted in the prescribed form to the Secretary's Office the next council meeting and before the proposed CUE. (Application form to be procured from Hon.Secretary.)
The Council's decision in the matter is final.
